Day 1 - June 27th

Aloha from Hawaii!

I decided a quick and easy way to try and keep people updated with what is going on over here in Kona would be to do a blog, that way I don't have to send out tons of emails!! (yay, me being lazy).

So...

On Monday I endured a 6 hour plane trip after being delayed an hour on the plane in the airport because our headlights weren't working, and you need headlights to fly across the ocean, even in the day (...umm okay) that brought me to Kona, Hawaii where I will be participating in an internship with Dolphin Dreams Images for underwater videography and photography. I stepped off the plane in Kona only to be greeted with air that you can touch! I had completly forgotten about how humid tropical places are! My first day was filled with information, rules and meeting people. Its a very laid back place and seems like it is going to be alot of fun! That evening I read my book and watched the sun set into the ocean from the porch at the house I will be staying at, before succumbing to jet lag and crashing out at about 8pm hawaii time.

Tuesday came and we went diving. Not working today because they want to make sure our dive skills are adequate. So we just got to go have fun! We went out on the boat and talked for a bit about diving and what we were going to do and where we would dive. Then it was into the water! The visibility was great and we did two dives, the first in a place called Suk-m-Up, near some lava tubes that we got to swim through, just had to be careful to stay low so you didn't get to experience the place's name. We saw and got to hold and octopus and saw two white tipped reef sharks (exciting) as well as many other awesome creatures. Of course I didn't have my camera because I was testing the underwater housing for leaks during that dive...but it stayed dry inside so its good to go!

Inbetween the dives we got to experience what "Blue water diving" would be like, we donned our maks and jumped into the ocean in a place where the ocean was at least several thousand feet deep. It was just the most amazing blue color water down and down and down forever. Lets just say this blue water made my blue toenails ashamed to be called blue! ;o)

The second dive was at a place called Carosel, another set of lava tubes, this one with a large boulder in the middle of a big chamber that you can swim around (hence, carosel). No super amazing creatures on this dive, but beautiful fish and coral. Came home and relaxed, still not working yet because they wanted me to be able to relax get used to being here (which was good because I crashed out early again.
